Positive Behavior Interventions and Strategies (PBIS)

In the 2006-2007 school year, the staff implemented Positive Behavior Interventions and Strategies (PBIS).  This initiative provides for a common school-wide language and system for rewarding positive behavior and redirecting undesirable behavior choices.

Students who demonstrate positive behavior are encouraged with SOAR Slips.  The slips are designed with three copies.  This enables students to keep a slip for celebrations at home, give a copy to their teachers for celebrations in the classroom and submit a copy for entry in a weekly school-wide drawing for prizes. SOAR stands for Safety, Organization, Achievement and Respect.  These are qualities that staff members try to model and cultivate in students.

Teachers will be sharing their grade level's specific behavior management plan during the first weeks of school. Students not complying with school rules and procedures may be referred to the office to meet with an administrator. Students referred to the office will be given a yellow referral form that is to be signed by the parents and returned to the teacher on the next available day.

Classrooms and grade levels will have additional ways to celebrate SOARing behavior. Teachers will share these consequences during the first weeks of school.

Severe Clause: The administration may alter the process for children engaged in extreme disrespect or willfully hurting others.

We believe that all teachers have the right to teach, that all students have the right to learn,
and that no student should be allowed to interfere with these rights. We expect all parents
to support a firm and consistent school discipline policy.
